No relaxation for Maurice Fabietti.

Maurice Fabietti isn’t preparing for the ANDRA Pro Series Westernationals with any form of relaxation but instead a busy schedule of racing across the southern states.

The Holden Trade Club team’s Monaro has been getting a workout competing in the Slamfest series before a return to quarter mile action in Western Australia.

“We’ve got three meetings in six weeks so it’s all going to be pretty hectic and from there head off to Perth for the ANDRA Pro Series, then to Sydney, then to Mildura, then back to Sydney,” Fabietti said.

The championship has so far been a benefit for Peter Kapiris with the Victorian driver taking two wins from two events this season as well as a number of bonus points for low ET and top speed.

But Fabietti isn’t taking that lying down and believes with so many teams capable of stepping up, the trophy could go a number of ways.

“John (Zappia) has shown some kinks in his armour lately; there are more people there now to hold him to form,” Fabietti said. “Peter Kapiris, Mark Belleri, Robin Judd is back up, Benny Bray is starting to go good, so there is more than three people vying for the championship now. There are five and six really fighting for it.”

Fabietti has been able to take a unique approach to the battle by experimenting with a Lencodrive transmission, allowing him to launch the car more consistently.

“We are breaking new ground. A few people have tried them and haven’t got them to work,” he said. “Put it this way, everyone is watching what I am doing because if it works you will find a lot more people going that way.”

The ANDRA Pro Series Westernationals will also feature the second round of the Pro Stock championship where Michael Ali will be looking to hold on the lead as rivals including Shane Tucker, Lee Bektash and Australian champion Aaron Tremayne eye off the valuable WA bonus points.

General admission to the Westernationals begins from $31 and tickets are available at www.motorplex.com.au.
