After a promising last event was brought to an early end with a mechanical issue, Nieuwhof Family Racing is ready to go again for the second round of the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship this weekend at Perth Motorplex.

Last time out rider Luke Nieuwhof top qualified with an 8.53 and progressed through the first round with a win against David Waters before a bye run in the second round.

Come the third round though gremlins crept in and the 60foot Kawasaki stalled when it was brought on to the two step rev limiter on the start line.

“We figure the bike was maybe not getting enough fuel when it was on the two step so we’ve richened it up a fair bit and will see what impact that has,” Luke said.

“It was frustrating at the time but it was a good problem to figure out because with national points on the line this weekend we really want to be on our game.”

Nieuwhof said a misbehaving shift light was also creating a little drama for the team.

“The shift light was coming on very early, way too early for what we had it set to,” he said. “So I was shifting by sound instead to try and overcome that. Fingers crossed that is another cobweb we have blown out.”

Nieuwhof will be up against eighteen other Modified Bike teams, with qualifying from 5pm today.
