Steve Reed was a shock non-qualifier at the opening round of the ANDRA Top Alcohol season but expects they can make a fightback in the championship.

Reed was one of the biggest names not to qualify for the field, explaining that the team underestimated track conditions.

“We hadn’t expected the track to have been as good as it was, also paired with the weather conditions improving every run we were unable to get on top of it and overcome tyre shake each pass,” he said.

“It was very disappointing. It’s not often we’ve had a DNQ. It’ll be a long drive home across the Nullarbor but lots of time to get some plans into place so we can come back fighting next round.”

With possible heavy hitters in the championship Gary Phillips and Steve Ham going out in the semi finals and first round respectively, Reed is hopeful that will bode well.

“All is not lost and the team will pull together for a double header at Willowbank Raceway for rounds two and three of the championship over the Easter long weekend,” he said.
