How many of the smaller tracks can

1 Hold a Pro show?Mildura and Portland, AIR, Alice Springs,Palmyra   Calder not small can run 1/4 if wall extend to sand trap
2 Are actually safe enough?they should be all reasonable safe may be need some upgrades
3 Are ready to make a massive commitment to hold, what, 1 show per year, and for what term, 1,2,5 or 10 years???Andra will need to help them and how long, see how successful 1st
4 Actually have the people with the skills to run such a show, without losing control to outside heavyweights?Andra should always have a dictator team to run pro rounds just like nhra. Then they have same people at every round eg track people, meeting director
5 What about the local area's roads towns etc, would they be able to cope? yes why not if cooperate with local law enforcement and council

Re: Easter round whats going on?

In the states that have no good facilities at all, like SA and Vic, racing the Pro Series at the current venues that are not up to standard I think is a bad idea. The problem will never be fully resolved and most people will no longer see the need for a new facility which is the best option to get the sport back on track.

Re: Easter round whats going on?

Its a tough one either way. The other point of view is if you show the Government that there is actually an interest by running smaller events they may be more likely to help fund a new facility. At the moment they may only think they would be helping a minority and decide to spend else where. A new facility is ideal for sure, but you could be waiting for another 10 years.

They government, not knowing a thing about motor sport, would turn around and say, 'why do you need another one when you have one that is prefect.'

Re: Easter round whats going on?

That's why I said it was a tough one. How long do you want to hold out for a new track? They are probably already saying, "Whats wrong with the old one?".  Either way the future isn't bright for Vic or SA.

Re: Easter round whats going on?

No ANDRA championship racing since 2001....so it's been a decade now since we have had racing in Vic and SA. Shayne is right in asking how long should we wait?
I think my views in regards to this are changing lately. It might be time to get racing back in whatever capacity, so long as it is safe. Even over 1/8th mile if need be.

Ian, have you ever driven a very quick, powerful, purpose built drag car?

Local roads, airstrips, straightaways at circuit racing strips etc etc are no place for anything quicker than a street car. If seeing people maimed and hurt is what your after, then go ahead, have some drag cars on a backstreet somewhere, but ANDRA sanctioned drag racing should only ever be held on tracks that meet EVERY safety criteria laid out by ANDRA.
You would never see the V8 supercars on a circuit without the mandatory safety requirements fully met. Even their street circuits are up to the same standard as the international class tracks.

What are you talking about.I never said any think what you suggesting.I said regional tracks..You miss led what was said.It was like a track say mildura holding a  pro round could the local streets around it can cope with extra traffic(extra crowd)anyone knows you cant run a group one car on road or airstip lol.Even a high horse power street car will have trouble lol

Re: Easter round whats going on?

Just a quick response to Luke's question - Hidden Valleys braking area is regulation length for an international track.

Local accommodation, ability for roads to cope with spectator traffic, parking etc are all parts to consider as well as the financial risk for the tracks, most of which are club run, as well as the need for additional support in terms of officials, scales, etc etc etc.

An interesting topic having additional National grade tracks involved, question is will the racers support it? Will racers consider not being able to run a PB? Every V8 trsck is different...

That track doesn't look too good. It may be a great surface to race on which is the first step, but there are no walls, the lanes aren't wide enough, no mounds for the crowd, probably no good toilet facilities, and probably many other things that don't tick any boxes. We can't downgrade ourselves just to try and get some extra races in. This track isn't even in Aus?

Jay Jukes wrote:

They should, I think that they are lucky here that all three big tracks are very fast, but it shouldn't matter if they can't do a PB, as long as it is an international standard facility nothing should stop them. Over in the NHRA lots of tracks aren't capable of fast times, but it doesn't stop them.

They have said that, and now this event in November at AIR and the Top Fuel meeting in Vic are going to make the Government think exactly that. The tracks are good with a bit of work done to them, but will never reach an international standard. Calder is WAY better than AIR though, AIR needs a fair bit of work. This meeting coming up will show what it is capable of, but even then, it will never be a 1/4 mile track ever again, cars are just too fast now. The run off at AIR was too short 15 years ago, imagine now.

Re: Easter round whats going on?

Just curious how long is Air raceway braking area and how shorter compare to say Sydney? Also whats the track record their anyone knows? What if they nether go back to 1/4 racing they  can race to 1000ft(extra 100 meters)or 1/8(extra 200 meters)surely then Air raceway will have same length of braking area like the big 3 tracks. Also is their any land that can  pinch say a extra 50-100meters anyone know?

Andra could easily hold 1/8 pro rounds their to get championship racing back in SA and wait least 2 maybe 3 years for cougar raceway gets built which allowed 1/4 racing. Some racing better than nothing.then when cougar raceway does start running still hold events at Air raceway(having two tracks in SA will only help drag racing)

Re: Easter round whats going on?

Donato I think Archie may have been having a bit of a joke default/smile
Neat looking place for street cars though! Looks like a private strip, any more info about the vid Archie?
Thanks for the answers Jay. Your point on racers running PBs is a good one. I hope the racers would support regional facilities. The racing would be great I think as it is down to the best tuners and drivers. The three "super tracks" really all have top notch traction most of the time, some variation in surfaces would be good and definitely mix things up a bit.
Donato - we may have to question what international standard is. They might not be super tracks, but do they need to be?
Ian, I think AIR is around 400-500m? Someone else may have a better answer. Also flat, not like Sydney or Perth which have an incline. Track record was 4.95 by Rachelle Splatt and 289mph by Jim Read.
I think with the terminal speeds cars are now reaching it would be at best a 1000' facility for Pros.
