One of the biggest events on Sydney’s Dragway’s calendar has been remodelled to a one day format.

Sydney Dragway has announced an ‘explosive one-day event’ on the Saturday 7th May date, with the professionals of the 400 Thunder featuring on track at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm in a 3 round format.

The event was initially meant to take place from the 7th to the 8th of May and also include a round of the 400 Thunder Sportsman Series.

Sydney Dragway management has also confirmed that selected sportsman brackets will also be announced on Monday to support the 400 Thunder Pro Series for this event.

Sydney Dragway general manager Peter Beaumont said the venue believed in a short form, high impact single day of Nitro Champs.

“We want to put on the best possible show and combining it all into one day is the best way to give the crowd and the racers the best format.”

Mr Beaumont also confirmed that Monday would see the opening of competitor entries for the Nitro Champs event, as part of the 400 Thunder Series under IHRA sanctioning.

“We will have more information and detail to come next week, to help our competitor group with their planning and logistics and of course, keep an eye on SydneyDragway.com.au for more details,” said Mr Beaumont.

Sydney Dragway has also clarified that apart from street meets – which will be IHRA sanctioned – all other events including the ATURA Sydney Dragway Track Championships will continue to be run under ANDRA sanctioning unless advised.

UPDATE: Sydney Dragway have now made the event a 400 Thunder Sportsman round with the sportsman racing to continue on over to the Sunday. The following amendment was sent out via email to racers.

With regard to the 400 Thunder Sportsman National Championship, due to overwhelming support to run all 400 Thunder Sportsman classes at the Nitro Champs, Sydney Dragway has made the decision to include all 400 Thunder Sportsman brackets excluding Junior Dragster. Unfortunately due to current NSW legislation, Junior Dragster will be unable to compete at this event. Once the approval we seek is granted, we will immediately inform Junior Dragster racers that they are able to enter the event.

Due to larger Sportsman entry sizes expected, we have turned Sunday into the conclusion of the Sportsman Series and will include exhibition Pro Series for those 400 Thunder teams wishing to do exhibition passes. The 400 Thunder Sportsman series will be run under the same conditions as the NSW Track Championships. Details will be on the Sydney Dragway website with the opening of entries on Monday 4/4/16.”
