For Grant O’Rourke, this weekend’s Nitro Champs are all about making sure every small part in the OMS machine is working at its best as he looks to chase down John Zappia.

The Nitro Champs are the latest round in the 400 Thunder Series, and will be held across May 7-8.

O’Rourke is currently less than 100 points adrift of John Zappia in the 400 Thunder Pro Slammer standings.

“When it comes to drag racing, often it is the littlest thing that can make all the difference in ultimate success or soul-crushing disappointment,” said O’Rourke.

“Zapp (John Zappia) has said on a few occasions that his undeniable success comes down to all of those ‘one percent’ things that make the difference, and there is no secret that he is the one we want to catch, and that we want to beat.

“We have done a lot of work over the recent times to improve the big picture of our racing package, and now we are focusing in on all of those ‘one percenters’ to try and really crack that difference so we can properly go after him.”

In preparation for this weekend’s racing, the OMS outfit has conducted a two-day testing program at Sydney Dragway.

“We have been hard at work testing this week as we look to get all those little ducks in a row for this weekend,” said O’Rourke.

“It isn’t just Zappia we have to beat this weekend – there are 14 Pro Slammer racers in total coming to Sydney Dragway for one of the most prestigious events on the racing calendar, and as we have seen time and time again, anything can happen.”

The Nitro Championships are the latest round in the 400 Thunder Series, and will be held across May 7-8. Pro Doorslammer will hit the track on Saturday May 7, with two qualifying rounds followed by eliminations racing to find the ultimate Nitro Champs victor.
