Supercharged six just has a ring to it, wouldn’t you agree? There will be plenty of unique Australian engineering hitting the track very soon when Jeff and Matt Ramsay debut their FJ Holden ute, to be powered by a Whipple supercharged Holden 186 red motor.
“We purchased the car in the early 2000s off veteran racer Ray Walker. He raced the car at Castlereagh in the 70s and 80s and Eastern Creek in the 90s under the name of Brumby,” Matt explained.
That said, the car has copped the full renovation, completely stripped and rebuilt from the ground up with a roll cage, new front end, nine inch diff and Caltrak rear end installed.
With a Duggan aluminium cylinder head to complete the setup, the engine made 700hp at the flywheel on the dyno, with a rich tuneup and only 23 psi of boost according to Ramsay.
“It is a very unique combination which we hope will turn some heads,” he said.
“We have tried to keep the car looking as ‘nostalgia’ as possible, with things like gloss black paint, Centreline wheels and original Holden badges. However we have got some modern technology on board also, with a full Racepak data logging system and Petersen dry-sump oil setup.”
The car has just been painted and is in the final stages of assembly. The father and son duo will take it to Sydney Dragway for testing this weekend before an official debut at the 6 Banger Nats at Warwick Dragway in September.
“The event was founded by our close personal friend Mark Stewart, who tragically passed away in 2012, so it will be fitting for us to debut the car at his race meeting,” Matt said. “It is probably the most fun you can have in a weekend, so we are looking forward to it.”
