Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

I wouldn't have a clue... all the racers I can think of that have been racing for for decades have changed cars. The only racer I can think of that has raced the same bike for as long as I can remember (20 years) is Toni (not sure of his last name) that has worn the yellow race suit at every race and never missed a meeting at AIR and always stages to right next to the wall.

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

There is a guy here in Perth that has an aluminium front Plymouth Superstocker that's been raced since the day it was built (early sixties). The name escapes me though!

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

After purchasing my rail from Lenny Leonard , i started to ask questions about it's history

he pointed me to Ron Matthews who he bought it from

Ron filled me in on the details and send some pics

after posting pics on another forum Russell Parker said it looked like one of his old rails he sold  and went to Whyalla

i asked if the rail in the magazine  is the one he sold to Whyalla  and YES IT IS

i also asked if the purple rail on the trailer was the same  YES IT IS

Ron Matthews sent the pics so im on the right trail

after the 332 expired he fitted a Windsor and made a new chassis up his drive  and ran it for 35 odd years

just upgrading what was needed to keep it racing

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

Howdy
I've heard the claims about that Plymouth in the West but I never heard of it in the '70's/'80's/'90's. I went to meetings at Ravenswood and I would have remembered it if it was on the track. I do know it came here in the 1960's as a race car.  I've also heard Paul Foleys Hombre Anglia mentioned but he retired it in the eighties and started running a 240Z in it's place. He how runs the Anglia at Nostalgia events but it would be hard to call it continuous use. Bernie McGrath has a front engine car in Victoria that's probably as old as Kyms - best ask him.. There's an FJ in Queensland (Captain Nitrous?) I read a bit of a story and that goes back to the late sixties as well. Maybe Donato is right -Tony Keating has been riding the same two stroke bike since as long as AIR has been around. They was a lot of older cars here (SA) but the closure of AIR killed off numbers.
Cheers
Tony

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

Yes that's right,Tony Keating is his name. I remember seeing his bike at the track since I was a little kid in the early nineties, but my dad said he was racing at AIR since he could remember as well. His bike would easily have a 30+ year racing history... But that FED of yours Kym surely does have a long history of racing as well.

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

I know it hasn't raced consistently, but is Cowin's Psycho III the original car or chassis from when he first raced it?

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

no  but it's a pretty darn good copy from the people who should know  default/cool

the original when sold had the chassis slotted under a funnycar that crashed   ( so ive been told )

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

I dont think there would be any FED's left from that era still running original chassis, due to age and safety.

Of the cars, Paul Foley's Hombre Anglia still races, it was around 2000 when he switched to the Dato, and the Anglia has been restricted to Nostalgia events since though still on average has probably run more consistency over the last 40+ years than any other car.

There may be cars that have changed hands, Ben Gatt's Capri comes to mind, it still runs today depsite changing hands about four times.

Re: So who has Australias longest consistently raced drag car

George is in his 70's as well and still racing!
Add to that list - unsure of exact details John Solomons (Johhno) capri, still running and driven by his son Adam, Stuart McLaughlins 105E Anglia was owned by John Boyle which was originally the Milton Adey car running at Surfers Paradise in the late 70's. Gary Clarkes Torana is another long termer.
