Brisbane’s Kelly Corbett has walked away from this year’s Castrol EDGE Winternationals with a swag of wins including the prestigious John Storm Memorial Trophy.

The highly sought trophy is awarded by the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) to the driver with the highest points tally across all Sportsman (Groups 2, 3 and 4) categories at the conclusion of each Australian Championship drag racing season.

“To win the ultimate prize in drag racing really is a dream come true for me,” Corbett said.

As well as winning the John Storm Memorial Trophy, Corbett won the ANDRA Rocket All Stars and South Queensland Divisional titles for her Modified Eliminator bracket.

She was also runner-up in class eliminations at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals.

The ANDRA Rocket All Stars series is run over seven rounds throughout Australia, Corbett contesting events in Ipswich, Mackay, Sydney and Perth.

Corbett’s climb back to the top of the ranks in Australian drag racing comes after forging a highly successful junior career in the sport where she became the first person to be crowned Junior Dragster Australian Champion in 1998.

“The success at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals this year was the culmination of everything I have ever dreamed of in my racing career,” she said.

“This really is an amazing moment for me.”

Corbett, 25, raced under the Nsane Racing Team (nsane.net.au) banner in a team very much a family affair with their parents also heavily involved in her motorsport career.

She said her husband Michael had been vital in her climb back to the top as had her mother Jenny, who also works on the race team while father, Steve is the Managing Director of Willowbank Raceway.

Her uncle Ashley Karslake is also a pivotal member of her crew, while brother Scott lends support.

“I am very pleased to have the support of my family and friends to help me get to where I am today,” she said.

Corbett went into the event leading the series points and secured her championship with a win in the third round of eliminations.

Corbett’s Winternationals hopes were dashed in the final round when she red-lighted, the event win going to her opponent, Toowoomba’s Athol Jacobsen.

Corbett’s major backing comes from IT specialists Nsane Developments, while Castrol EDGE, Noonan Race Engineering, Excel Event Hire Lifestyle Australia, Race Safety Equipment, Payback Print and Sign, and Speedflow also support her program.
