Darren Morgan and his team are excited for this weekend’s City of Ipswich Winternationals in Queensland, the 400 Thunder Series finale.

Morgan and crew arrived in Queensland on Monday and have been involved in numerous promotional activities since.

Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop got a taste of Australian drag racing yesterday morning, when she sat in the Darren Morgan Racing AEG Top Fuel dragster for a start up.

The car was later featured on the Channel 10 Brisbane News for their live weather cross.

The Winternationals kicks off today, with Top Fuel running on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Morgan is currently in third place in the points and is looking to secure first place at the event and reach maximum points to take out the championship.

This could potentially be Morgan’s fifth Top Fuel championship and the first Top Fuel Championship of the 400 Thunder Series, both being an Australian first.

“I am looking forward to good weather, excellent competition and excellent racing,” Morgan said.

The AEG Top Fuel dragster has been consistent and fast all season and DMR tuner Ben Patterson is looking forward to putting down some fast passes.

“We have had a really good season, we ran our personal best in Perth,” Patterson said.

“We ran a 4.77 with the parachute out half track at the last event, which could have easily been in the 4.60s if the chute hadn’t come loose.”

Five other Top Fuel teams and a total of 406 competitors in other brackets will join Morgan over the weekend.

The first qualifier is estimated for 5pm tomorrow night, with two further qualifiers on Saturday and racing on Sunday.

First round will be at 10am, semi finals at 2.25pm and the final at 4.52pm.
