Palmyra Pro Stock canned – updated x 2

News has come through that the Palmyra Pro Stock round has been cancelled, with official word from both the track and Pro Stock Owners Association.

The event was to be the opening ANDRA Pro Series round for the new season.

The decision was made at a Palmyra drag racing club meeting last night in Mackay, apparently some racers raised safety concerns.

Palmyra Dragway is currently going through a extensive safety upgrade, including the installation of armco for the braking area.

Palmyra Dragway has provided an official response.

“Palmyra Drag Racing Club Inc advises that the ANDRA Pro Series Pro Stock Round #1 event to be held at Palmyra Dragway, Mackay on 13 and 14th August, 2010 has been cancelled due to an expectation that the track resurfacing and safety barriers that are required to be installed for this event will not be completed prior to the scheduled event date. Obviously the club is disheartened not to be able to offer this spectacular event, but will proceed with the track upgrades so that the event can be rescheduled in 2011.”

The Pro Stock Owners Association has also given an official response.

“The Pro Stock Owners Association supports the decision made by Palmyra Drag Racing Club Inc as safety is paramount to our members. Our Association looks forward to working with this progressive club in the near future and thank them for the efforts their volunteer members have put in to try and get a Group One round at a regional track – they need to be commended.”
