A new season has begun for the Queensland Drag Racing Championships at Willowbank Raceway.

Top Sportsman led the way at the February 16 opener, with QDRC Outlaws to kick off their season at the second event on March 30. Reigning champion Daniel Morris made it to the final alongside Denis Ryan. Ryan was quick off the line in his Holden Torana with a .019 to .053 start line advantage which combined with an 8.674 on an 8.66 dial in for victory over Morris.

Reegan Ward gave away the Competition Bike final with a red light against 400 Thunder champ Ken Collin.

Modified saw Kellie Kidd open up her season in the best way possible, defeating last year’s QDRC champion Bob Frawley. Both drivers had tardy (for Modified) .101 reaction times but a 7.504 on a 7.49 dial in looked much better for Kidd.

Robert Winterburn took out Super Sedan, going .034 and 10.693 on a 10.66 dial in. Taking runner up honours was Patrick Barron.

Another bracket, another reigning champion in the final, but this time in Modified Bike the result went the champ’s way. Alan Annis had a big holeshot on Craig Banks and made it count.

Shaun Doeblien used a .033 light and 10.623 on a 10.60 to defeat Ian Neilsen in Super Street, who pushed to a break out as he went for the stripe.

In Junior Dragster, defending champion Oscar Isherwood drove to an 8.002 on a 7.99 dial in win against Ashleigh Pinkstone for the trophy.

Also there on the day was the Graham Slapp-owned Fossil Fueler, driven by Steven Mirams (pictured above). The team made a 330’ pass to check out some data and were planning on making a full run later, but a few issues prevented them getting back on to the track.
