Queensland’s own Victor and Ben Bray will be looking to mirror their past success in the northern end of their state next weekend when they arrive on-track for round three of the 2013 Slamfest Series on Saturday 29 June.

During last year’s Slamfest Queensland leg – taking in the now-closed Townsville facility as well as Gladstone’s Benaraby Raceway – the Sidchrome Team Bray Racing pair enjoyed great success, claiming an event win each including an ‘all-Bray’ final and the national eighth mile Elapsed Time (ET) record.

In 2013 the Queensland leg of the eighth mile Doorslammer series will again take the Kallangur Top Doorslammer outfit to Gladstone, before heading to Mackay two weeks later.

“The Queensland events of the 2012 Slamfest Series were certainly very kind to us, delivering both Ben and I an event win each and seeing me re-write the national eighth mile ET record in  both Townsville and Benaraby and the mile per hour record in Townsville,” said Victor Bray, a six-time back-to-back national Top Doorslammer quarter-mile champion and winner of the 2012 Slamfest Benaraby Raceway event.

“Thanks to the highly competitive nature of the Series, both of those records have since changed hands and I can guarantee they will again be a hotly contested item when we get back on track next weekend in Benaraby.

“I am currently third in the points chase with two rounds left to run of this year’s series, and with the points still very close there will be plenty for the racers to strive for in front of the great spectators of Gladstone next weekend.”

In Townsville last year, Ben Bray enjoyed victory over his father in an all-Bray finale before Benaraby’s event saw him face up against his dad again in the semi-finals.

“I definitely have fond memories of last year’s time with the Slamfest Series in the northern end of Queensland – dad enjoyed some great records and who can forget that I took victory in an all-Bray final at Townsville, that was just great,” said Ben Bray.

“While we may not be heading back to Townsville this year I am very excited that we will be back in Gladstone before heading up to Mackay for this year’s Queensland leg of the Series, the fans in North Queensland are just fantastic and I really love putting on a show at the regional facilities of our state.

“Hopefully, we can really turn it on for the local spectators and give them something to really cheer about – hopefully from my perspective it can be another all-Bray finale with the victory going to ‘The kid’!”

Now entering its fourth year, the Slamfest Series sees Top Doorslammer racers from around the country competing across the eighth-mile distance at Australia’s regional tracks. The Brays will be joined on-track in the Top Doorslammer field next weekend by 2012 Slamfest Series champion and Series co-owner Peter Kapiris as well as John Zappia, Gary Phillips, Russ Pavey, Murray O’Connor and Grant O’Rourke.

Come Saturday 29 June, the gates will open at 8.00am with racing commencing at midday.  Children aged 12 years and under gain free entry when accompanied by an adult while those aged 13 to 17 years (as well as concession holders) can purchase tickets for just $20.00. Adult passes are available for $35.00 while family passes (2 adults and 2 kids) are available for just $70.00.  For more information, please visit www.slamfest.com.au or www.facebook.com/SlamfestAustralia
