Eighth-mile fever will once again come to Willowbank Raceway next weekend with Queensland’s premier drag racing facility readying to host the penultimate round of the 2013 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series on Saturday 3 August.

Organisers expect more than 100 racers to head to the Ipswich venue for round three of the Series which is currently in its third year as it continues to bring prestige racing to the regional facilities of South East Queensland.

Series organiser John Winterburn said the Series was growing from strength to strength thanks to its recipe of quality racing, camaraderie and fantastic regional locations.

“The JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series is all about bringing great racing to great regional tracks in South East Queensland, supporting these local facilities and the racers who love them,” said Winterburn.

“This recipe has proved a great success with competitor and spectator numbers rising steadily and happy sponsors continuing to support us year to year.

“With the championship points for all but one of our brackets extremely close with less than five points between the leaders, there is no arguing that the racing is top notch as well!”

Jimboomba  racer Dylan Leo is currently leading the charge in Diamond T Products Junior Dragster by the slenderest of margins only one point. A great racer, Dylan is also the current leader in the Willowbank Raceway Track Championship.

Leading the way in the other brackets are Lyn Stewart (FG Loy & Sons Earthmoving Old School – Warwick), Michael Cameron (RD Williams Excavator Parts Modified – Benaraby), Simon Stevens (Queensland Nameplate Group Modified Bike – Willowbank), Andrew Lange (Ice Slushee Super Sedan – Willowbank) and Robert Winterburn (John William Auto Sales Super Street – Willowbank).

With the points tight and a good mix of track allegiances for all of the brackets heading to the penultimate round, the on-track action next weekend is sure to be interesting.

“This Series is all about having fun and enjoying great racing with your mates, but even so, when it comes down to it everyone likes to win!” said Winterburn.

“With just two rounds left to run, the points are certainly starting to attract attention from the racers and spectators alike, and I am sure there will be some great performances to be witnessed next weekend at Willowbank Raceway, especially from the local competitors looking to dominate on their home soil!”

Willowbank Raceway’s round of the 2013 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series takes place on Saturday 3 August 2013. Gates open at 7.00am with qualifying from 9.00am to 2.00pm and racing from 3.00pm.

Following Willowbank Raceway’s round three on 3 August 2013, the 2013 JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series will head to Benaraby Raceway in Gladstone for the final round of the 2013 Series on 28 September 2013.
