Midway through qualifying at this weekend’s NHRA event in Las Vegas a shock announcement has come through from Kalitta Motorsports with Australian David Grubnic being replaced by J.R. Todd.
The statement read as follows:
“Effective immediately, team owner Connie Kalitta of Kalitta Motorsports has made a decision to change direction with his dragster by tapping J.R. Todd to drive the special edition Bounty Hunter Top Fuel dragster for the remainder of the 15th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas. Todd will drive the Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta-tuned Top Fueler beginning with third qualifying session scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (PT) Saturday.
The future of this Top Fuel program will be determined at a later date. No further information about the driver change is available at this time.”
Kalitta was visibly upset following a ‘double step’ by Grubnic in Friday’s qualifying.
