Sydney Dragway regret to inform that the proposed Nitro Funny Car Gold Cup intended to be staged as the Feature of Round One of the Track Championship Series on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1 will not be appearing.

“Sydney Dragway is extremely disappointed that due to several Funny Car competitors having various issues in getting their machines ready in time for this event, we must postpone them. We simply do not have the numbers to warrant a Funny Car feature event at this stage,” remarked Venue & Events Manager Ray Treasure.

“This Funny Car event was taken very seriously by the Dragway and in addition to that, I had personally spent a couple of weeks on getting the Funny Car competitor numbers we needed to make this event work. Also Tony Beuk had attended a very positive and successful round table discussion with the racers some time ago, we are just sorry we cannot run Nitro Funny Car at this time and expose to the people of Sydney – one of Drag Racing”s most exciting creations.”

“We will be still running the event over two days to give the season a good kick start and allow plenty of runs for those competitors entered for the event.” added Treasure. “Also with the nights still very cold here at the moment it makes sense to run the event in the best possible conditions.”

“Sydney Dragway will move the prize money originally offered to the Sportsman Brackets at the original date to this event so it will be an added bonus for those racing at the opening of the Track Championship Series.

There is a chance that we may be able to put on some exhibition Funny Car runs at the opener to whet the appetite of the Sydney Fans in anticipation of the sports most unpredictable beasts returning later in the season.

Additionally Sydney Dragway will continue to examine other features around the various Track Championship rounds this upcoming season in general.
