After a labor intensive build, Mick Mahoney and Phil Read have finally hit the track with their stunning Supercharged Outlaw Mustang at the recent ANDRA Summer Nationals at Adelaide International Raceway.

Driven by Mahoney – who we have not seen on track since a devastating crash at South Coast Raceway decimated their previous Supercharged Outlaw Capri – the new car is a real head turner.

New car blues troubled the team for most of the weekend starting off with a problem in the pits that saw them miss the first qualifier. The second attempt saw the car go silent on the hit of the throttle in the burnout, likewise in the final qualifier, the car produced a long smokey burnout before again falling quiet.

“Well we had a trying day,” said Mahoney on Facebook. “Second pass a clip was knocked undone by me no doubt, when I put the foot down the throttle cable popped out of the bracket, and no go after that.”

“Third attempt was a great burnout and then no power when I lifted again – a bloody $2 part let us down. But the skid felt awesome, nerves are gone, confidence is up – time to get the banger hauling ass.”

“Must also make mention of the fantastic efforts of my crew, so many problems but they stuck at it with a smile. Thanks to all the people and race fans that dropped by to say g’day, feeling very humble and proud of the reaction that the car got still.”

With rain ending the rest of the event, the team will have to wait until the next outing to continue the sorting out process.
