As Willowbank Raceway prepares to celebrate the 50th running of the Winternationals (June 8-11, 2017), its management is pleased to announce the signing of Gulf Western Oil as the marquee event’s new naming rights sponsor.

The Gulf Western Oils Winternationals is the largest championship drag racing event held outside of North America and holds the prestigious honour of being the final round of the 400 Thunder Professional Drag Racing Series.

Willowbank Raceway President Tony Wedlock said the board of the Raceway was ecstatic to welcome Gulf Western Oil to the event and the venue.

“As we prepare for both the 50th running of the Winternationals and the 30th anniversary of the event calling Willowbank Raceway home it is certainly an exciting time, and this is now even more true that we are able to confirm that respected company Gulf Western Oil has thrown its support behind us and the event,” Wedlock said.

“In a multi-year deal, Gulf Western Oil will hold the naming rights of what is Australia’s largest drag racing event and indeed the largest championship event held outside of the United States – attracting tens of thousands of fans from all across the country and overseas and more than 400 competitors and their racing machines for four days of non-stop action.”

Australian owned and operated since 1988, Gulf Western Oil is the largest Aussie-owned manufacturer of lubricants in this country with OEM-approved formulations and ISO 9001 quality endorsement.

It has a comprehensive distributor network throughout Australia and the Pacific Rim, offering an extensive range of products including diesel engine oils, petrol engine oils, hydraulic oils, gear lubricants, transmission fluids, aerosols, coolants and cleaners.

‘We’re extremely happy to be supporting the Winternationals, it’s such an iconic event with a great history,” Gulf Western Oil National Marketing Manager, Peter McColl, said.

“It’s going to be a big year for Gulf Western when it comes to drag racing, particularly when you consider our recently formed partnership with Team Bray Racing.

“Willowbank Raceway is a fantastic facility and Victor and Ben Bray are very fired up to do battle on their home track for this Gulf Western Oil supported event.

“To be involved with supporting two long-time QLD Drag Racing icons such as Team Bray Racing and the Winternationals combined is quite exciting for us and I have a feeling this one is going to be huge.”

From the amazing flame-throwing Top Fuelers through to Junior Dragsters, every bracket that competes for national championship honours will be represented at the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals, with more than 400 cars and motorcycles from all over the country expected to be on track over four big days of racing. The thrilling on-track action will be complemented by a wide range of on and off-track activities creating a true festival atmosphere.

Spectators have a range of viewing options available to them, from finding a grassy spot on “the hill” to general admission and reserved grandstand seating; while corporate guests have a range of options available from the permanent fixtures of the instantly recognisable Willowbank Raceway corporate centre and the Corporate Club to the purpose-built Sky Marquee of the Winternationals.
