Ex-pat Australian Mathew Leonard will be driving the NitroRat altered in Competition Eliminator this weekend in Las Vegas as part of the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals.

The last outing for the car was last year at the same venue for the Autumn national event. Mathew had installed a new Aussie injector hat, Aeromotive fuel pump and a modified supercharger but had a few hiccups over the event.

While weather got in the way of the event, the team competed in the make up event on Tuesday following and ran a PB 6.53 at 207mph.

“We had a good idea it would run hard with the changes but ran out of time over the weekend, hence the reason to stay back as we didn’t want to finish the year off with a bad performance,” Leonard said.

The team have upgraded a few more components on the car and are ready to hit their first event of the year in Las Vegas hard. With a similar tuneup in the car and it should run just as hard if not a bit quicker.

Uniquely there are Leonards competing on both sides of the globe on the weekend, with Mathew’s brother Warren racing at the ANDRA Grand Finals in Adelaide.
