On behalf of the South Australian Drag Racers Association Members and Committee, we are honoured to present in the memory of Drag Racer, SADRA President and long-standing ANDRA South Australian Division Director, the Harry White Memorial Perpetual Trophy. The inaugural recipient for 2017 went to Modified Bike racer Bryan Finn (middle).
White’s friendship and dedication to Drag Racing will live in our hearts forever.
His involvement in drag racing dates all the way back to the early days of racing at Brooksfield Dragway and later Adelaide International Raceway.
Upon his return from a stint in Vietnam, serving his country with distinction, White played a significant role in the formation and operation of the South Australian Drag Racers Association and spent time with ANDRA as the Executive Director and membership of the National Executive Committee, assisting with the operation of the Australian Drag Racing Promoters Association conferences on numerous occasions.
White also provided the National Control Council with informed advice on technical issues, particularly in the Super Stock area, remaining sensitive to the needs of the competitors and the sport generally.
harry-white-memorial-trophyThe Harry White Memorial Trophy (RIGHT) will be awarded to the highest point scoring ANDRA SA Division Racer of the Year in all classes, equivalent to the overall ANDRA SA Division Drag Racing Champion of the Year.
Finn was presented the trophy at the Steel City Raceway Club Championships on Saturday, May 6. On the start line was Finn surrounded by Michael Harvey and Greg Oberti (right).
It would be safe to say that it’s been a huge season for the likeable Finn, having won the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Modified Bike championship for the second straight year, taking out the coveted John Storm Memorial Trophy for the first time, winning the club championship and now the Harry White Memorial.
“Right now life if good,” beamed Finn.
“I’m pretty happy with my results. Winning the Harry White Memorial trophy is the icing on the cake and I’m proud as punch right now. I knew about the trophy thanks to Facebook but had no idea that I was in the running. The Steel City Raceway club has had a very rough year and as a matter of fact, I believe this was the first event they were able to start and finish in the season!
I was concentrating on winning the John Storm trophy this year more than the championship. Don’t get me wrong about the importance of the championship but for me, the John Storm trophy is a pretty special thing in the history of the sport!
“I say to anyone who listens this has taken me 50 years to find something I’m good at (laughter) and I’m happy to continue to ride it out for as long as it goes.
“This year has been absolutely bloody amazing. I said to some of the guys after the event that from here on there is only one direction and that is down. But I like winning and I’m going to try and make it three Modified Bike championships in a row, something I don’t think has been ever done before.
“Other than that winning lotto would be nice!” smiled Finn.
