Drag racing fans were treated to a mix of quick times and mechanical gremlins as Top End drivers continued their shakedown to the 2017 Top End season.

Saturday night’s meeting attracted almost 700 fans to Hidden Valley in the hope the big bangers of Bronte Henning and Dieter Herrmann would light up the sky.

But Henning’s Corvette fell short of any record runs and Herrmann’s Camaro got the wobbles when full power was applied.

“It was that sort of night,’’ Drag Racing President Matt Abel said.

“There were no delays like the last meeting, which is a good sign this early in the year.

“And Michelle Abel’s 7.86 second run in the Junior Dragster was a good effort and right on the limit, which is what she wants.’’

Deiter Herrmann

Abel said the vibrations in Herrmann’s car after he dominated week one of the championship season had his pit crew searching for answers.

“Dieter won the last meeting and went to up the power here and found his car started shaking, which left his crew trying to work out what’s going on,’’ Abel said.

“And I broke the chassis in my car (1957 Chevrolet) which coming on top of the opening round dramas wasn’t a good sign.’’

Dwight Breffies

Dwight Brefies ran an 8.608 time on an 8.20 dial-in to beat Todd Knight in Top Wliminator, while Ashley Smith’s 8.671 run on an 8.68 dial-in won him the Super Modified class.

Mark Tattingham

Mark Tattingham’s 10.058 on a 9.55 won him the trophy in Modified Bike and Tim Bryan claimed Super Street honours when he cleared 120mph on an 11.057 run.

Justin Neck

Andrew Reid

Justin Neck and Andrew Reid were supreme in the Street Car and Street Bike sections, while Brooke Harris took overall honours in the Junior Dragsters with an 8.299 run on an 8.28 dial-in.
