We have been following the war for the Street GT-R World Record since featuring the then record holder Robert Marjan in Drag News Magazine #21. Well over two days last week, the three main combatants went all out at Sydney Dragway.

Marjan had recently reclaimed the ET record in [JUNII] at the GT-R Festival a couple of weeks ago with a 7.66/188.89mph blast, but Anthony Maatouk in [KNG32] threatened before a tailshaft let go.

John Apostolopoulos in [RH7GTR] – a dark horse in the CV Performance machine – ran a 7.71 personal best, and Marjan was steady with a 7.79 at a big 187mph. Impressive times, but they were about to be obliterated.

Maatouk first blasted a 7.612 – with two pedals – smashing the ET mark at only 180mph, before completing the 1-2 punch combo with a 189.04mph run later in the day to claim the speed record.

The team weren’t done breaking hearts and returned the next day for the knockout blow – 7.451 at 190.38 – before driving home.

I am sure we will see these GT-Rs go head to head again at the Brisbane Jamboree on 26-27th August at Willowbank Raceway.
