With the eleventh season of drag racing at Perth Motorplex underway, Mandurah based drag racer Mark Rothwell is getting set for an all out assault on the title of Australia’s quickest Pro Street Blown sedan.

The 37 year old racer is already the quickest in WA, and sixth quickest in the country, but is under no illusions that to get the title will be a lot of hard work.

“We were fourth in the country until a couple of weeks ago, unfortunately the eastern states start racing before we do and a couple of racers have got the jump on me,” Rothwell said.

“My personal best is a 7.51, but I need to find a half a second or more to get the title.”

Rothwell’s alcohol fuelled, Supercharged Outlaws Torana has had some freshening up over the off season and Rothwell is confident he can take the title.

“The biggest draw back we have is funds, I would love to find a sponsor to help ease the pain in my pocket and to get some parts that would help my car pick up the few tenths I need.”

While chasing the Pro Street Blown title, Rothwell will be racing in the Supercharged Outlaws bracket at the Perth Motorplex, his big wheelstanding Torana is always popular and manages to attract plenty of attention when he comes out to the start line.

“It is such a buzz when you hit the accelerator and 1800 horsepower is let loose,” he said.
