Humpy Racing Puts In A Strong Performance At Willowbank Raceway

Humpy Racing put in a strong performance at Willowbank Raceway on Saturday for the latest Nostalgia Drag Racing round. This was the first event for the Team in the 09/10 Nostalgia Drag Racing season, after electing to sit out the first half of the season to focus their efforts on building a second nostalgia drag racing car.

In spite of the absence from the track the Humpy Racing Holden FX was strong right off the trailer, running a 9.28/145mph in the first qualifying session. This time was backed up in session two with a 9.29/145mph. The third qualifying session was cancelled by event organisers after a number of delays due to rain and track clean-ups.

After two quick and consistent qualifying passes the Humpy Racing Team couldn’t wait for racing to begin. Competing in the Gas class, which runs on a Chicago shootout basis (best of three rounds), guaranteed the Team plenty of opportunity to show the crowd just what the methanol powered Holden FX was capable of.

By the time the first round was held the sun had begun to dip and the track had begun to cool, which did not seem to suit the car setup quite as well as the earlier conditions. In spite of this Humpy Racing owner and driver Rob Brown ran a 9.37 on a 9.29 dial-in to take the win. The second round saw another dominant performance from the Team, with the Holden FX taking the win with a 9.36 on the formerly nominated dial-in. Humpy Racing was also triumphant in the third and final round running a 9.42 for the win.

After three rounds Humpy Racing was among the small number of Gas teams who had won all of their races. This meant that officials had to look closely at the times of each of the competitors on their last run and after doing so Humpy Racing was deemed to have effectively come third, thus narrowly missing out on contesting the final.

Nevertheless it was a strong performance and Rob Brown and the Humpy Racing Team were both pleased and proud of their consistency and three round wins. Humpy Racing would like to thank their sponsors, supporters and crew who made this impressive result possible. The Team is very excited about returning to Warwick Dragway in less than three weeks time for the first round in the Nitro Magazine South Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series to be held on March 13th.
