Round five of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships has the series now heading towards its conclusion. Here are all the winners from the day, plus some testing highlights, photos and videos.

20th August QDRC 2016 2226

We will get into the testing first, and Josh Leahy continued the family’s nitro legacy by taking his first nitro licensing steps in the Stormtrooper Outlaw Nitro Funny Car – and went as quick as 6.32 at 202mph.

20th August QDRC 2016 885

Once a stalwart of Supercharged Outlaws, we have not seen Tom Coonan for around eight years by our recollection, so it was great to the see the Falcon back on track at the QDRC and dipping into the sixes.

20th August QDRC 2016 1273

Blaze Hansen contines to kick goals with his crazy Hayabusa running a new 7.34 PB and had his Top Bike licensed signed off. You can read more about this bike in issue #18 of Drag News Magazine available here http://dragnews.com.au/online-order-2.html

Getting into racing and the event was a bye round the Super Comp, Comp Bike and QDRC Outlaw classes, they will appear at around six of the series on September 17.

20th August QDRC 2016 833

All racing at QDRC is contested over a three round format with the best two performers throwing down in a final. In Modified, girl power won over for the day with Rolina Tremayne facing off against Nicole Doeblien, Tremayne was way to eager on the button and red lit by .047 giving Doeblien an easy win and move her into third in the championship.

20th August QDRC 2016 1918

Daniel Morris hit the lead in the championship with a win in Super Sedan over David Foreman. Morris’ .026 to .041 holeshot in the Statesman proved the difference with a 8.426 (8.39 DI) to the Camira’s 8.833 (8.80 DI).

Tammy Goldthorpe continue to chalk up wins in Modified Bike and it is no surprise she has a commanding lead in the QDRC championship points. Goldthorpe strapped a big holeshot when chasing down Ken Collin in the final forcing his break out at the strip as she ran a comfortable 9.109 on a 9.08.

In Super Street Lucas Holz tied up points lead with a win over Russell Stricklen. Despite the advantage at the green for Stricklen, the XY was off pace from his 11.20 dial in for some reason running a 11.399 and allowing the Holz Torana to come around for the win with a 11.324 on a 11.16.

20th August QDRC 2016 1929

Finally in Junior Dragster Jett Willshire stamped his authority on the field with a win over Dominic Nipperess. A cracking .008 light from Nipperess was not enough to hold back Willshire’s 8.220 on a 8.19 and the pair are now one and two in the championship respectively.
