Driver Mark Hinchelwood and team owner Maurice Fabietti are looking to be back at the pointy end of Pro Slammer with their new ACDelco Holden Monaro recording a team PB on only its third full pass.

Hinchelwood said in an interview with Sydney Dragway that the 5.71/251mph pass was shut down just before the finish line, but has given the team plenty of confidence ahead of this weekend’s Santo’s Summer Thunder event, the second round of the 400 Thunder Pro Slammer series.

“We debuted the brand new ACDelco Pro Slammer for round one (of the championship),” Hinchelwood said. “We tested extensively leading up to that meeting but unfortunately we had a little gremlin that had everyone in the brains trust stumped.

“We went 5.83 first full pass, backed it up with a 5.81. Then we tested out here last weekend and went 5.71/251mph clicking it off early. Maurice is absolutely ecstatic.”

The early numbers have been a boost for the team and Hinchelwood said it was rewarding for Fabietti’s ideas to begin yielding results.

“Incrementals wise we knew the car was going to be fast. Fab’s idea was we needed to build a car that would run at the pointy end of the field, but he wanted to stick with a Holden Monaro. The new car is narrower, lighter, lower, so we don’t have any data. We don’t know what the car needs on the start line or half way down the track yet so to run a 5.71 blew the team away; it was an easy pass.”
