The Calder Park Drag Racing Street Outlaws Series kicked off on Friday Night July 11th in front of an eager crowd of spectators ready to see some of the toughest street cars battle it out for top spot on their representative lists.
The cool night may have kept some competitors away, however there were a few strong entrants who braved the low temperatures to start off the qualifying lists.
Daniel Sharban (pictured above) topped the list in Street Outlaw running an impressive 9.44/147mph in his Ford Capri with a 420 Windsor running straight pump fuel.
John Inserra bought out his beautifully presented LJ Torana to play and ran a best of a 10.60/129mph, with Richard de Dood close behind him with a 10.61/134mph in his Holden Monaro.
Street Outlaws Motorcycle saw David Carroll run an impressive 9.68/153mph to head the pack, with Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Maurice Allen even out for a play, running an 11.06.
Street Outlaw Mod kicked off with Brandon Zito racing his dad’s LJ Torana for the first time, after a few modifications to make it fit the street trim requirements. Brandon belted out a 9.97/137mph, showing the racing gene runs thick through his blood. The word around town is all the heavy hitters are getting ready for the next qualifier.
Round 2 of Street Outlaws qualifying is on Sunday 3rd of August.
Outside of the Street Outlaws qualifying there was plenty of off street racing.
Also some competition testing, Rod Clark brought out the ex Spinozzi Pro Stocker now lined up for Super Gas duties, overseen here by Super Gas icon Graeme Spencer.

Andrew Popovic believes he has the world’s quickest stock 883 bullet at 13.02 102mph, “According to anything that can be found its the fastest stock 883 engine (untouched heads, cams, crank, rods, barrels, pistons, gearing) and on a street tyre,” said Andrew.
