From 2014 drag racers who call Willowbank Raceway ‘home’ will have the chance to compete for the Queensland Drag Racing Championships with the facility’s board today announcing the new name for what has previously been known as the Willowbank Raceway Track Championship.

The announcement follows on from confirmation earlier this month that Willowbank Raceway’s FUCHS Winternationals would return to a traditional Thursday to Sunday race format in 2014 and complements the official release of the full 2014 calendar which is now available at the Willowbank Raceway website

Willowbank Raceway Chief Executive Officer Tony Manson said the name change was designed to appropriately reflect the success these racers strive for across each season.

“Willowbank Raceway’s Track Championship has for years represented a prestigious target for hundreds of local racers year after year,” said Manson.

“As Queensland’s premier drag racing facility we regularly host competitors from all across our great state and so we felt the time was right to introduce a new name to clearly represent these racers and the honour for which they so vigorously compete across the year.

“As such, our 2014 calendar now reflects what have previously been known as ‘track championship’ rounds as rounds of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships.

“We certainly look forward to presenting the first Queensland Drag Racing Championships trophies this time next year.”

As well as the Queensland Drag Racing Championships, the 2014 Willowbank Raceway calendar also signals the return of the new-for-2013 Santo’s Cranes Super 3 Extreme Drag Race event concept which will again be held across Easter’s Good Friday and Easter Saturday (18 and 19 April 2014) while the 2014 FUCHS Winternationals will return to a traditional Thursday to Sunday format (5-8 June 2014) as previously reported.

Also returning in 2014 will be popular events such as the Queensland Autospectacular (6 April), the JP Racing Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series (26 April), the Nostalgia Drag Racing events (February 23 and 10 August), the Winternationals Warm-Up weekend (31 May-1 June), Mopar Sunday (27 July), GM Mania (7 September) and the Brisbane Jamboree (30/31 August) alongside Willowbank Raceway’s Street Series and weekly Test ‘n’ Tune events, while fans of all things Ford will have a new day just for them when the first ever Ford Fan Fair is held on 20 July.
