After a decade in the hard fought Australian Pro Stock scene veteran Lee Bektash recently announced he would be taking a break from the sport.

“The last 10 seasons it has been a dream of mine that came true to race Pro Stock,” Bektash said via Facebook.

“Have I thought this through enough I’ve been asked? My dad is turning 80 on Saturday and being his only boy he has done nothing but hound me about getting hurt and of course wasting money, so I guess Doorslammer is out of the question.”

Bektash has become a cult figure in drag racing, among a brand that is a cult of its own in the sport.

“I’m humbled to have become Australia’s Mopar Man and recognised across the world for our records, speeds and outstandingly presented Mopars. Fiat Chrysler/Mopar and all the dealers that have supported my operation have been no less than outstanding.”

“On the positive we will be racing until June 2017 and will try and cover all ANDRA/400 Thunder rounds even if it’s exhibition to try and beat my own record of 6.87/200mph.”

Bektash will be starting farewell tour this weekend at the ANDRA Grand Finals at Adelaide International Raceway. This will be Bektash’s last time making a pass in anger in Adelaide, the spiritual home of Chrysler Australia the Aussie arm of his major sponsor Mopar.

Bektash will be competing hard to wrap up his second ANDRA Pro Stock Championship – and looking to add the ANDRA Grand Final Gold Christmas tree to his trophy cabinet as well. His sights also set on breaking his own 5.87 second 1000ft ANDRA Pro Stock ET record.

Well aware is Bektash that he will have to be on his game too with the field is looking fast. “Gerry Parente, Jodi Racco and Chris Soldatos are all running well and can’t be taken lightly, we’ll have to earn every round win,” stated Lee.

As this will be Lee Bektash Racing’s final run in ANDRA competition Bektash would love to see you all out at Adelaide International Raceway this weekend cheering on not only his Mopar Avenger, but all of the racers putting on a great show for your entertainment.

Lee Bektash Racing also wishes to thank all of their sponsors, family, crew, friends and fellow competitors for being a part of his journey in his drag racing career and will miss you all in his retirement.
