A feature of Mildura's Easter Power Sports Festival is the Supercharged Shootout at Sunset Strip where an army of Supercharged Outlaw cars had a shot at an $8000 winner's purse.
The Easter event at Mildura's Sunset Strip dragway is growing rapidly in reputation as one of the best regional events in the country as the track all but maxed out entry numbers again this year. The drag racing event forms a part of a Power Sports Festival each year that features, drag racing, speedway, motocross and the running of the Mildura 100 Ski race, with all sports showcased in festivities across the weekend including a huge show and shine in the town centre that attracts tens of thousand of visitors.
Supercharged Outlaws was run on a Chicago Shootout format over three rounds and then a final. Leo Parisotto grabbed the cash in his '34 Chev over Vince Monteleone's HD while in the B-Final, Warren Leonard took the win with his FED over Tim Stewart's Mustang funny car.
Greg Damiani defeated Brett Henley in the Top Sportsman final, coincidentally you will be able to read all about Damiani and his HG Monaro in the new issue (#39) of Drag News Magazine.
Another winner's trophy went on Graeme Cooper's mantle when the veteran 'Bricklayer' EH wagon racer notched up yet another win after he won the final against Rodney Jackmann's HZ.
Kenny Stewart and Matt Ponton fought out the Modified final with the Fuchs dragster of Stewart coming out on top.
Bryan Finn let rip some great powerskids on the way to winning Modified Bike over Greg Oberti.
The unassuming looking VN Commodore of Peter Roden took the win light in the Super Street final over Jamie Turner.
There were a number of new Junior Dragster racers licensing which was great to see. When it came to the racing, Jake Berias was too good for everyone and Ballie Ponton in the final.
A Nostalgia bracket was also run featured FEDs to Gassers. Peter O'Connell cut a terrific .008 light in the final with his little FED to cap off the event with a win over Ian Hick's A-Model Tudor.
We will have extended coverage in issue #40 of Drag News Magazine, so look out for that when it is released.
