Australia’s newest professional drag racing series, 400 Thunder has called upon four of the most proven business and management minds to head up its four-seat board, with more than 120 years of experience between them.
The 400 Thunder board is comprised of member from of Australia’s three premier tracks: Tony Wedlock from Willowbank Raceway, Joseph Rodriquez from Sydney Dragway, and Brad Miocevich from Perth Motorplex, with Maurice Allen taking the last position as the competitor representative.
The board is accountable for the day-to-day running of the series, while a Racing Commission has been established comprising of 50-50 per cent representation from tracks and the competitors running in the series. The Racing Commission has been formed to help shape the series and is responsible for technical, sporting regulations, and the composition of the calendar and formats.
400 Thunder spokesperson Wedlock said the newly appointed board is ready to lead drag racing back to its rightful prominence.
“400 Thunder is a professional series by name, and professional by nature. My fellow board members and I are excited to lead drag racing into this new and exciting era,” Wedlock said.
“We will be taking the same approach to the 400 Thunder Series as we do everyday in our professions, and with the combined experience of the board, I know the series will excel.”
Managing Director of Ultimate Financial Group, Wedlock boasts 30 years experience as a financial planner with he and his team are responsible for the management of more than $100 million in assets.
A former Australian Pro Stock Champion and multi-time winner of the Australian Nationals and Winternationals, Wedlock is also the president of Willowbank Raceway, home to the Fuchs Winternationals, the biggest and most prestigious race held outside the United States each year.
Rodriquez’s background includes hotel management and more than 25 years in sales and management in the prestige motoring industry, and has been responsible in the creation and management of the popular ‘Day of Drags’ and ‘Judgement Day’ events.
Adding further commerce, finance and banking qualifications, Miocevich brings more than 30 years involvement in motor sport management, manufacturing, engineering and marketing.
Having acquired Ravenswood drag strip and Claremont Speedway, Miocevich was instrumental in the creation of the world class Perth Motorplex complex at Kwinana.
Current Pro Stock Motorcycle champion and President of the Pro Stock Motorcycle Association, Allen adds an additional 25 years experience in the sport.
In addition to his on-track success, Allen also heads two successful companies, expanding custom motorcycle parts wholesale business, Speedcycle, and the Australian Dragbike School.
The 400 Thunder Series also draws on the extensive experience in raceway staff who have delivered Australia’s marquee events consistently over a number of years.
Wedlock believes he has the best people around him to cement 400 Thunder in the Australian motorsport landscape.
“The board has a proven record in management and finance, and that will equate to 400 Thunder being the best professional drag racing series Australia has ever had,” Wedlock said.
“All four of us are dedicated to the sport, and together we can make 400 Thunder one of the country’s leading motorsport series.”
