Marco Tolomeo (Cecil Hills, NSW) is making the most of 2015 taking every opportunity to race as the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series comes to Sydney Dragway for the East Coast Nationals.
The event on November 7-8 will be Tolomeo’s first National Championship event at his home track since wrecking his Ford XY Falcon in a dramatic semi final incident at the X-Champs in May 2014.
With a pedigree dating all the way back to Castlereagh Dragway in the 70s, he and his mates weren’t prepared to let a piece of drag racing history go.
Following a 12 month rebuild, Tolomeo made his comeback at two 2015 NSW Atura Track Championship events and a National Championship appearance at Alice Springs’ Desert Nationals back in July.
There he suffered a gut wrenching semi final loss to three time defending champion John Kapiris by just .014 seconds.
But that performance and the 50% bonus points added to his tally for making the trek to the Red Centre puts him in a competitive position in the hunt for a National Championship.
“We are extremely pumped to be racing at the East Coast Nationals with a Gold Tree and Summit points on offer, bring it on!” he said.
“Doing well at the Desert Nationals certainly gives the team a boost going into the East Coast Nationals. We are confident that we can do well at Sydney, our home track, and obtain more valuable Summit Series points.
“Our last three outings at Sydney resulted in a win, semi final and runner up. The competition will be tough but we are prepared and ready.”
Bringing everything together from street legal cars to turbocharged monsters and modern marvels, Super Sedan frequently offers some of the closest racing of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.
Tolomeo knows it will be tough but a good showing in Sydney before rounds in Portland (VIC) Warwick (QLD), and Mildura (VIC) will set up the 2013 Sydney Dragway Track Champion for a run at breaking Kapiris’ dominance.
“If the crew and I can swing it we will attend all events, but it will depend on the family business workload.
“The competition was tough before, it is still extremely difficult. The drivers and cars have stepped up and the racing is extremely close with races won and lost by thousandths of a second. But with luck, talent, consistency and good judgement calls, a win is possible… but not easy.”
The East Coast Nationals featuring the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series alongside Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Top Fuel Motorcycle, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle will take place at Sydney Dragway November 7-8.
