20 Pro Stockers to challenge at Winternationals

Twenty Pro Stockers will take to the track next weekend for a 16 car field at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals.

Instantly guaranteeing edge of your seat action for the fans attending the June 10-13 event at Willowbank Raceway.

The Pro Stock category has been moving in leaps and bounds over the past few years, with the 2009/2010 season – set to come to a end at the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend event – especially seeing the performance bar raised over and over again.

Leading the charge both for this season and the two preceding it have been Bundaberg Tremayne brothers Aaron and Tyronne, with younger brother Aaron the two-time consecutive Australian champion, with his brother claiming runner-up spot both years.

“We will just wait and see what happens (regards a third championship), I hope it can happen but we will just take the event as it comes,” said Tremayne.

“I haven’t won the Winternationals event as yet, I haven’t even been to a final – I keep getting knocked out in the semis – so it would be good to win it and that is what we will be trying to do.”

While Aaron may be leading, this time Lee Bektash is between he and his brother Tyronne, with both the Victorian and the older brother both still in the hunt for the championship should things fall their way at the June event.

“The Winternationals seems to go well for us as a team – over the last three we have gone to the finals each time, so hopefully I can use the same strategy and driving techniques I have in the past to get me to the final, and maybe convert that to a win, and perhaps a championship,” said Bektash.

“If Aaron goes out early and we play our cards right it might happen – 55 points is not that much – but having said that, with Pro Stock becoming a class where just to qualify is a battle in itself, to be able to go rounds and shoot for the championship while splitting the Tremayne brothers for the first time in two years – we are pretty happy to be able to be in that position.

“The event is certainly my favourite, and probably every other racers favourite event, and I just love being there and competing at willowbank Raceway, I have had a lot of success there and hopefully we can get a good result for the Team Mopar Dodge.”

The Castrol EDGE Winternationals is the largest drag racing event outside of North America and is expected to host around 500 racers at the season-ending event.

The Thursday June 10 to Sunday June 13 event will host the championship ANDRA Pro Series final rounds for Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Morgan & Wacker Top Bike and Morgan & Wacker Pro Stock Bike as well as final championship rounds for all of the sportsman brackets.
