The Winternationals began with both transporters leaving JRR headquarters on the Tuesday 8th June. Grant Foster (aka Fozzy) and I drove up in one transporter and Andrew Johnstone (aka pin head) and one of our crew guys Mitch drove up in the B double.
Drag Racing legend Gary Phillips and his Lucas Oil Products team has claimed their 14th Australian Top Alcohol Championship in the ANDRA Pro Series, making a total of 15 Australian titles in Gary’s illustrious career.
The West Australian division secured the ANDRA Professional Racers Cup for the very first time since its inception in 1975. The ANDRA ‘Pro Cup’ recognises the most successful ANDRA Division in the six ANDRA Pro Series categories contested at the Australian Nationals, the Summernationals and the season ending Winternationals. One point is awarded for each elimination round win at those events. Led by strong performances by Martin Stamatis (Top Fuel), John Zappia and Robin Judd (Top Doorslammer) the WA division secured its historic first ever win with a one point victory over the ultra strong South Queensland division who tied in second place with their arch rivals New South Wales.
