It will be everything six cylinder this weekend at Warwick Dragway as the premier event for six pot lovers once again cranks up at the South East Queensland track.
The weekend will start off at the 1/8th mile venue with a bracket meeting comprising of a Warwick Dragway Track Championship round and 6 Banger Nationals qualifying with heads up grudge racing featured on the Saturday night – all racers are welcome irrespective of the number of cylinders on two or four wheels.
The annual 6 Banger Nationals gets underway on Sunday with qualifying followed by a Chicago Shootout with an emphasis on fun and a laid back atmosphere. In the lead up, Warwick Dragway has been meticulously procuring the racing surface and even have been installing shade sails for racers and spectators to increase the comfort levels.
For racers the venue has announced it has gone with a independent sanctioning body named RACERS, to help ease problems with IHRA and ANDRA licensed racers competing. You can read more about this here – http://dragnews.com.au/news-all/local-news/3558-warwick-dragway-changes-sanctioning.html
The event has attracted some elite machines from across the country far and wide, including:
Scott Porter in his Factory Extreme Nissan 350Z – Porter ran 4.40 at his last visit to Warwick.
Rhett Cooper-Fowle has brought his 295ci V6 altered all the way from Western Australia.
No doubt one of the stars of the day will be Phil Penny’s turbo with the Honda attached skidding up a storm.
The event will be the competition debut of Sydney’s Jeff and Matt Ramsey’s blown FJ – there is no other sound like a 186 Holden motor wound up with a supercharger.
Des and Ashley Pimm have travelled from North Queensland with Australia’s quickest 202ci sedan.
Event organiser Lyn Stewart will be out in her angry 202ci powered Gemini wagon – the event was the jewel in the late Mark Stewart’s eye.
Also heading down from the far North Queensland tropics is Savos Pendelakis with his Ford Barra powered digger, the FED set the 400 Thunder B/MD National Record at the Winternationals.
