BROWN HOPING TO CHALLENGE FOR MAIDEN TITLE

The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series’ most awarded competitor, Craig Geddes, is leading the way in the Competition ranks as the series heads to its final round of the season at the Perth Motorplex across March 4 and 5, but he is not without strong competition.

Nipping at his heels with 170 points to his 200 is local racer Madison Brown, with the 19-year-old hoping a home ground advantage may play in her favour.

Brown is following in the racing footsteps of her father Ian Brown and is currently enjoying her second season in the senior ranks, following a Junior Dragster career that started when she was 11.

“I am very excited to be in contention for the national title,” Brown said.

“Since stepping up into the funny car I never thought I would be able to travel and challenge for the championship, but my awesome family, crew, and sponsors have helped me live this dream.

“It is going to be a challenge to take out the title – Craig is a very good driver with a lot of experience and is going into the final a few points ahead of me. I can’t count myself out though, as anything can happen.

“I believe it does help that the grand final is at my home track – it is the track I know the best, the track my team knows the best, and it is close to home so I can have a good night’s sleep in my own bed.

“If I could win it, it would mean so much, not just for me but my whole team. My dad never got the chance to challenge for a title and has told me numerous times it is a dream of his to get me there.”

While Geddes is a fierce competitor, Brown is doing her best to focus on her own race heading into the ANDRA Grand Final.

“I treat every racer the same in my mind, whether it is their first race or they have been racing longer than I’ve been alive. All of them can be beat, but all of them can also beat me, so I just need to focus and be the best driver I can be,” she said.

Brown and Geddes actually lined up against each other in the final of series’ penultimate round just last week, with Geddes taking the victory.

“The whole Twilight Nationals event was intense because we had a lot of things we wanted to achieve,” Brown explained.

“I was fairly calm though as I knew I was three tenths under my index, however I still red lit in the finals which sucks but is something I now need to put behind me to focus on the grand finals.

“As we get ready to give it our best shot, I would like to thank my parents; my amazing crew, Bill, Trent, Declan, Tyler, and Amber; and my sponsors, Couplers, Dimoff Transmissions, Bills Small Engine Repairs, Penrite, and Applied Automotives.

“I would also like to thank Darryl and Peter for helping me get my car over to Mildura and crewing on it over there.”
