Top Fuel Funny Car Championship leader Brandon Gosbell is wasting no time solidifying his championship lead, and will be debuting a brand-new Rocket Industries Ford Mustang at the Jax Tyres and Auto Super Thunder at Willowbank Raceway on April 14 & 15.
“The Charger that we were racing at the East Coast Thunder is a beautiful car to drive, and we really had no intention of going to a new car – but the opportunity came up out of the U.S. to pick up the Mustang, and it was too good a deal to refuse,” Gosbell said.
The new car is a McKinney chassis with a Mustang body, that had done less than 40 runs all up over its previous life in the NHRA. In addition to the chassis change there is also a clutch change, with the team moving to a 6-disc setup from the 5-disc that has been used in all the team cars up until this point.
Team Principal Morice McMillin is under no illusions that the new set up will be easy to tame. “We ran the car in testing at Sydney Dragway for the first time, and it was very, very encouraging to say the least,” McMillin smiled.
“But ultimately, Willowbank is a different track, with different atmospheric conditions, so we are really looking forward to the challenge.”
The Rocket Industries Mustang will debut with a different livery to the Charger, and will be revealed live with Brandon Gosbell on the 400 Thunder Aeroflow Drag Racing Series Facebook page on Wednesday 5th April at 2pm.
“I can’t wait to share this Rocket Industries Mustang with the world, it looks so fast just standing still!” Gosbell concluded. “It’s such an honour to drive a car with the iconic Rocket logo on the side, so I hope I can live up to its history, and put it in victory lane when we roll into Willowbank in April.”
The Jax Tyres and Auto Super Thunder is on at Willowbank Raceway, with qualifying on Friday 14th April and race day, including the Aeroflow Pit Party, on Saturday 15th April.
