The jewel on Sunset Strip Dragway’s drag racing calendar is their Supercharged Shootout event, that is once again proudly presented by Atlantic Oils. The blown horsepower extravaganza is a feature of Mildura’s immensely popular Easter Powersports weekend, where the regional city embraces and celebrates motorsport across the whole Easter weekend.
Sunraysia Drag Racing Association and their President, Kingsley Kuchel, are once again excited to host the fantastic event.
“Easter for our club has always been special, right from our inception Easter weekend has had such a unique atmosphere which has never been matched by any other event we have ran,” said Kuchel.
“Easter Saturday is our Winternationals, it is the event that so many of our competitors want to attend, and it is also the event that our competitors bring along all their families for added support – which just adds to the event atmosphere.
“Competitors come to this event with the goal and determination to win the event, but they also at the same time feel so much more relaxed and find it to be a very enjoyable weekend, where events like the Summit Sportsman Championship is all business.”
Once again racers have come out and supported the Atlantic Oils Supercharged Shootout in big numbers.
“As always it is great to see good entry numbers, and we are sitting just over 32 for both Super Sedan and Super Street. The remaining brackets have solid numbers as well which is great to see, but the one special bracket that is for Easter is always Supercharged Outlaws,” said Kuchel.
“Since the inception of the Easter Supercharged Shootout in 2015 we have always had high numbers in this bracket, and an awesome mix of vehicles, with high quality appearances and horsepower thrown in for good measure.
“We have just under 20 supercharged vehicles attending this year’s event, which for a regional track is awesome to see. The only other event that matches these numbers in the supercharged class is the Winternationals.”
Atlantic Oils will also have one of their own sponsored teams in attendance. Darryl Stephen will be on track with his seven-second Ford Probe in Top Sportsman. It has been six years since Stephen has raced the championship winning Probe, and will be certainly one to watch in competition.
The Easter Powersports weekend celebrations involve the entire community, a monster car show on Good Friday takes over the Mildura City Heart streets, where tens of thousands of people are expected to turn up for a close look at all the motorsport facets on display, coupled with spectacular stunt shows from the Hot Wheels Stunt Team, all setting the scene for an action-packed weekend of drag racing, speedway, ski racing and arena motorcross.
When the action moves Sunset Strip for Easter Saturday’s high horsepower action, the family atmosphere follows.
“If you have never attended our Easter Shootout event, it is almost impossible to fully describe how energised the atmosphere is, and it is only something that you can learn or experience from attending the event,” enthused Kuchel.
“This excitement and enjoyment are only made stronger for everyone that camps at the facility, especially the kids as the Easter Bunny secretly gets into the facility, and leaves his footprints all around the pits, leaving eggs for all the kids to go and find Easter Sunday morning – even the adults get great enjoyment from this happening. It truly is a one-of-a-kind event.”
Atlantic Oils will once again proudly support the event in 2023, continuing their ongoing commitment to not just the Easter Supercharged Shootout, but the venue itself throughout the racing season.

The 2023 Atlantic Oils Easter Supercharged Shootout will be held on April 8th, 2023 at the Mildura Sunset Strip.
