The Australian National Drag Racing Association was recently very pleased to appoint Danya Borkowski from Western Australia and Paul Rogers Jnr from Victoria to its two independent Board positions.
These appointments restore the ANDRA Board to seven members, following the retirement of Grant Hamon and Grant Wilson.
The other members of the board are Chairman, Nathan Peirano (QLD), Murray O’Connor (WA), Paul Stephen (NSW), Katie Cassar (VIC) and Ian Brown (VIC).
Danya Borkowski has been involved with drag racing across a wide variety of roles for many years and is a criminal lawyer responsible for prosecuting serious indictable offences in the District and Supreme Courts.
“My family and I have been involved in the sport of drag racing in various capacities for many years. In about 2002. I began crewing for Robin Judd on the ‘Moonshine Bandit’ Top Doorslammer, where I had the privilege of working alongside a wonderful man and driver in Robin Judd, and some of Australia’s top tuners in Stuart Rowland, and Andrew and Chris Fowler. We travelled throughout Australia to compete in the ANDRA Pro Series, where we came runner up to John Zappia three times throughout the years, and set National records at 5.90 and 5.86, as well as being the first team into the 5.7s in testing at Sydney Dragway in 2011,” Borkowski said.
“When Robin retired in 2012, I began volunteering at the Perth Motorplex, starting out as the bracket marshall for Supercharged Outlaws and Super Stock while also branching out into race commentary as well as timing and data entry in race control. In more recent years I have been the bracket marshall for Competition and Modified Bike, and the Top Doorslammer bracket marshall at the interstate championship events in the Northern Territory.
“Throughout my time in drag racing, I have become familiar with the rules and regulations, as well as the processes and procedures used at the various tracks throughout Australia, while as a criminal lawyer and State Prosecutor, I have strong analytic, organisational and research skills, as well as a high standard of ethics and personal integrity.
“It is my hope that my knowledge and experience both at and away from the track will allow me to bring valuable insights to the ANDRA Board, and I look forward to getting to work as ANDRA drag racing looks ahead to its next 50 years.”
For many in Australia’s drag racing community, Paul Rogers Jnr needs no introduction.
The son of ANDRA Hall of Famer Paul Rogers Snr and the head of the well-respected Paul Rogers Performance Transmissions, ‘Jnr’ has been involved in drag racing for his entire life, taking up a wide variety of roles across the sport from competitor, crew member, sponsor, track official and meeting director through to ANDRA Tech Inspector, ANDRA Steward and (former) ANDRA Division Director, while also being a supplier to the industry through his business.
He also holds an extensive Defense Industry background, having worked in the service from 1997 through to 2013, where his final role was as the Project Manager for the New Zealand Air Force’s P-3K Orion Systems Upgrade Project.
“Having been involved in drag racing for as many years as I have, I believe I have a good understanding of how the sport and the community of drag racing works, and I am excited about this opportunity to join the ANDRA Board,” Rogers said.
“I have seen many changes in the drag racing landscape in Australia over the last 30 years and believe that many lessons have been learned to help us better direct the organisation into the future.
“I’m excited to be joining a Board which is comprised of passionate people with an extensive range of skills. I am confident that with my background I can provide valuable contributions as we all work together to navigate the challenges and work towards a stable and exciting future for ANDRA.”
