The most recent round of the Queensland Drag Racing Championship was paired up with the now annual Stomper’s 1/8th Mile Celebration event the following day as a weekend double event header.

The QDRC is drawing to a close with three more rounds in the super season to go. This round featured the performance based classes Super Comp and Comp Bike, Jai Schluter locked down the champion lead with a win in Super Comp with his Cavalier against a red lighting Tony O’Connor, who has a monster wheelstand in the XD Falcon. While Comp Bike was once again a family affair with Ken out riding Chris Collin in the final and edging ahead in the championship.

Tony Whyatt and Michael Schaper fought out the Top Sportsman final, the Whyatt Calibra’s 8.38 on a 8.36 getting the job down over a break out from Schaper’s Chev ute. In Modified, Lucas Holz strengthened his championship lead the best way possible by winning the event. The altered driver went .027 on the tree and 9.16 on a 9.12 at the stripe for a win over Kellie Kidd’s hard charging six second twin turbo dragster.

Damien Morris made his championship charge in Super Sedan moving to third in the battle after wrapping up a win against Adam White thanks to a big holeshot on the back of a .014 light. A red light by Troy Hutton in the Super Street final handed and easy win to Steve Cowan, but the HK ute still left the event in the championship lead.

It was a similar case in Modified Bike, Johnny Lewis joined the championship lead with a big win over the all-conquering Tammy Goldthorpe in round two, but let the final slip with a heart-breaking -.001 red against Brian Alvisio who now sits just points off the championship lead himself. Finally in Junior Dragster, Karl Schulz was king of the kids for the day winning the final over Tyler Bellert and jumping out to a handy 16 point championship lead.

The next round of the QDRC is already upon us this Saturday July 22.

On the next day Willowbank Raceway celebrated the life of John ‘Stomper’ Winterburn once again with running of Stomper’s 1/8th Celebration event, honouring the popular 1/8th mile series Stomper was passionate about.

Final round results on the day were:

Modified Bike: Vanessa Rohdmann def. Matt Wilson
Modified: Josh Mohr def. Rodney McAuley
