PremiAir Racing will head to its first competitive outing of the 2024/2025 NDRC Top Fuel season in less than four weeks buoyed by yet another successful test session completed at its home track of Willowbank Raceway last weekend – the venue for the upcoming New Year Nitro event across January 10-11.
The team, headed up by two-time Top Fuel champion Peter Xiberras, finished out last season strong with a B-Final victory at Willowbank’s season-ending Winternationals, which followed back-to-back A-Final wins in the previous two rounds, held on consecutive days in Sydney a few weeks prior.
Those late season results were enough to see the team and its PremiAir Hire Top Fuel Dragster finish out the season third in the championship standings, and with an incredible appetite to once again chase a third national crown.
“Across the 2023/2024 season we were working through changes to our supercharger and engine programs and chasing gains in the clutch,” Xiberras explains.
“That saw us have a bit of an up and down season, but things were definitely on the improve in the latter stages, as is shown in our results.
“Having said that, there is a lot we still want to achieve, which we feel will have us back in championship-winning form if we can get it right.
“As part of that, we have been taking every opportunity to test in the second half of 2024 as we get ready to relaunch our campaign in the Top Fuel title chase in January of 2025.
“With the assistance of Dom Lagana from 142 Speed Shop, we have made some big changes and we are looking forward to seeing those yielding race winning results soon.
“If how our test days have gone so far – especially this one just completed on December 7 – are any indication, then we are certainly moving in the right direction.”
Willowbank Raceway is a home away from home for PremiAir Racing, with the team’s Top Fuel outfit based just down the road in Brisbane.
“We certainly love racing at Willowbank Raceway, it is a favourite for our team and has seen us celebrate plenty of exciting times in the past,” Xiberras said.
“Before the Winternationals earlier this year, the last time we had competed there saw us bring home the event win, the Top Fuel title, and set the quickest pass in Australian drag racing history over the 1000ft – a record which stood until earlier this year.
“We know we can taste success like that again, and we will be doing all we can to make that happen and open the New Year of 2025 in the best possible way over January 10-11.”
