Perth Motorplex’s post-Christmas flame and thunder shows went off again this year in front of a great holiday crowd. Jet dragsters thundered down the quarter and the supercharged action from the Blown Alcohol Allstars delivered five second racing all night long.
On the back of her first home-town win at Summer Slam, Lisa Gregorini joined the Blown Alcohol Allstars field and top qualified her Camaro with a 5.74 ahead of Danny Costello’s Top Alcohol Altered. (5.87). Gregorini was using the event as a test following a full re-wiring of the Camaro and new Fueltech componentry added in preparation for the next NDRC round.
A 5.72 in round one sent her through to the A-Final against Craig Glassby’s Top Alcohol Funny Car who ripped a 5.53 over Brodie Zappia in round one. Dewey conditions in the A-Final caught out the Camaro and Glassby nailed the win with a 5.62 on a 5.51 index. The B-Final went to Matty Abel with his doorslammer in an off pace battle with Costello.
With only two cars in Top Comp, Madison Brown and Connor McClure matched raced with McClure coming out on top in the turbo Corvette following a -.003 red light from Brown in the final. Competition Bike was well represented as always with 9 bikes, at the end of the night David Edge was the upset winner over top qualifier Daniel Natalotto who picked off a cherry as well to decide the final at the tree.
Kasey McClure was back in the Supercharged Outlaws winner’s circle in her blown dragster. A 7.315 (7.29) doing the business over Vince Belladonna’s Torana in the final. In repeat of the final that didn’t happen at the last event, Yvette Gregg wheelstood her XE Falcon to the victory over a breaking out Jason Lippi Grand Am. On the radials, Brock Moresby ran a solo for the final and event win when Mick Wormall could not take the tree. Also in another repeat of an un-run final at the previous event, Paul Garbellini grabbed the win over Michelle Morrison’s fast charging altered in Modified.
In Super Sedan, John Szabo cashed in on a .003 reaction in the final and a 9.962 (9.95DI) at the stripe to keep the long-roof Falcon ahead of Martin Mirco’ Camaro at the stripe. A monster Modified Bike field was eliminated down to Ashton Kilvington and Connor Wood for the final, a -0.025 cherry ended the duel at the tree for Wood, gifting Kilvington the win. Steph Gullotto was the victor in an all female, all Commodore Super Street final battle against Lisa Garbellini, Gullotto chasing down her opponent with a 10.085 (10.06) to a 11.224 (11.22).
Lachlan Taylor won the Junior Dragster final after cutting his way through a large field to defeat Demi Van Dongen in the final. Both racers were too eager up on the wheel with a double-red light start, Van Dongen the first offender. While in Junior Dragbike Cooper Ashelford cut an outstanding trip-zip in the final, over Tyler James who ended up red lighting in his chase.
The next round of the Track Championship series will be at Nitro Slam January 4
