Taken purely on results, PremiAir Racing’s weekend at Willowbank Raceway’s New Year Nitro was not a great weekend, but the team says the lessons learnt there see it ready to launch full force into action at the upcoming Westernationals at the Perth Motorplex (March 1-2).
The two-time champions faced a number of issues across the weekend, but most of them were tied to new-found power in the PremiAir Racing Top Fuel Dragster, seeing the team feeling strong heading into the next round of the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC).
“On paper, it certainly wasn’t a good weekend at all for us!” chuckles PremiAir Racing Top Fuel Crew Chief, Tim Adams.
“Our car is well known for being super consistent and going down the track, but we have developed a whole different combination now and we have been trying different things to improve the performance of the car.
“On the weekend, we really woke it up and it is now fast! It is one to 60 foot fast, and it wants to run to the 330 fast, so we now need to learn to slow that down.
“It is so fast that the changes we have made in the past to slow it down are nowhere near big enough to slow it down now!
“So, it has been a case of it being a matter of time, a matter of runs, as we tick away at getting the car further and further down the track, and we are almost there.
“This means we head to Perth with a Top Fuel dragster that is well and truly alive and ready to race, and confidence that we are right on the cusp of something great, and that is exciting!”
New Year Nitro at Willowbank Raceway was won by defending champion Damien Harris over his RAI teammate, Wayne Newby, with the B-Final taken out by Phil Read over Peter Xiberras.
