The National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC) has today announced an electrifying week of drag racing action in the Northern Territory, beginning with the highly anticipated Nitro Up North, taking place on August 29-30. This stand-alone event will set the stage for a thrilling series of race events across the Northern Territory, bringing together elite racers and passionate fans for an unforgettable two-weekend motorsport spectacle.

Nitro Up North Highlights:
• Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars headlining an adrenaline-fueled event
• NDRC Doorslammer Grand Final, where the nation’s best will battle for championship glory
• ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series, giving competitors a chance to claim crucial points and trophies
• Entries and spectator tickets are now officially on sale

Fans attending Nitro Up North can expect a heart-pounding weekend filled with non-stop action, jaw-dropping speed, thundering engines, and fierce on-track rivalries. The event will showcase some of the fastest and most entertaining drag racing machines in the country – the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car series – lighting up the sky and pushing their 4000hp machines to the limit on the iconic Hidden Valley Drag Strip.
It’s not just nitro, with the event hosting the Top Doorslammer grand final that is guaranteed to put on an epic display of side-by-side 5sec passes as drivers battle for the title.
Beyond the racing, spectators can enjoy interactive fan experiences, pit access to get up close with the cars and drivers, and a festival-like atmosphere complete with food vendors, merchandise stalls, and family-friendly entertainment.

Nitro Up North marks the first of three major drag racing events in the Northern Territory, setting the tone for a week of unparalleled competition. After the conclusion of Nitro Up North, racers will journey to Alice Springs for the Desert Nationals on Wednesday, September 3, where they will continue their quest for ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series points and prestigious trophies.
Following the Desert Nationals, the action intensifies at Red CentreNATS, with four of the country’s top Doorslammer drivers making their way to Alice Springs for an all-new team racing format. One of the biggest storylines of the event is the intense rivalry between Team Zappia and Team Gregorini, facing off in what promises to be a dramatic family feud on the track. Each team will field two drivers and cars and with some recent scores to settle, this will be a must-see for any Top Doorslammer fan.

Adding to the excitement, sportsman racers will stay on for the iconic Heavy Hitters racing at Red CentreNATS September 6, where they will battle it out for big prize money in front of a packed house in a unique time-based racing format.
This incredible week of racing is made possible through the collaboration of NDRC, Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association (HVDRA), Central Australian Drag Racing Association (CADRA), Red CentreNATS (RCN), and the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA). Together, they are delivering a one-of-a-kind motorsport experience for Territorians and visitors alike, ensuring fans and racers alike are treated to world-class competition across multiple iconic NT venues.
With Nitro Up North kicking off a week of drag racing excitement, now is the time to secure your tickets and be part of the action. Whether you’re a devoted fan, a competitor chasing championship points, or new to the sport, this is your chance to witness the best of Australian drag racing.
