A new drag strip at Perth Motorplex has been given the green light, with the successful tenderer awarded the contract to construct the $4.97 million project in time for the start of the 2026/27 drag racing season.

Thanks to a $4.97 million investment from the WA Government, local contractor Nitro Works Pty Ltd t/a Eastside Concrete will commence construction in January to deliver a replacement that ensures Perth Motorplex remains a premier destination for motorsport in the state.
Based in Kwinana, Perth Motorplex consists of a quarter-mile drag strip and an oval speedway track.
The drag strip was closed in May 2025 following consultant advice recommending a replacement to ensure participant safety and motorsport performance.
The project is being delivered in partnership with VenuesWest and venue operator Evolve Facility Management, alongside the Australian National Drag Racing Association and specialist engineering input from Peritas, Australia’s leading drag strip design consultants.
This investment from the WA Government will ensure Perth Motorplex remains one of Australia’s premier motorsport venues for many years to come.
This year, Perth Motorplex was awarded Track of the Year at the 2025 Australian Speedway Awards, the fourth time it has won the award in five years. It was also awarded Tourism & Hospitality Business of the year at the Rockingham Kwinana Chamber of Commerce 2025 Regional Business awards.
Gavin Migro, the General Manager of Perth Motorplex, expressed excitement in what the new drag strip would bring to the venue.
“A brand-new racing surface at Perth Motorplex will transform the experience for competitors and fans alike, delivering a safer, faster and more consistent track in time for the 2026/27 season.”
“We’re grateful for the State Government’s support and the strong partnership with VenuesWest and ANDRA.”
“Our team is ready to hit the ground running for the new season once construction is complete. I thank our partners, drivers and WA’s passionate motorsport community for their patience through the track replacement process.”
