Lamattina Top Fuel Racing demonstrated resilience and determination at the Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway, overcoming a challenging weekend to secure valuable championship points and extend Phil Lamattina’s lead in the Top Fuel standings.

Supported by long-standing partners FUCHS Lubricants Australia, R&J Batteries and Muirs, the team arrived at Australia’s biggest drag racing event with high expectations.

The weekend began in frustrating fashion when the opening qualifying session was cancelled due to delays and rapidly cooling track conditions. Unfortunately, the next two qualifying opportunities also failed to deliver a representative pass, leaving the team with plenty of work to do heading into race day.

When it mattered most, however, the FUCHS LTFR Top Fuel Dragster delivered.

Lining up against the event’s top qualifier in Round One, Phil Lamattina produced the run of his weekend, charging to a personal best 3.749-second pass.

The result not only showcased the pace within the car but also highlighted the determination of a team that had endured a difficult qualifying campaign.

With confidence building, LTFR entered the next round looking to continue its charge. However, traction issues surfaced early in the run, resulting in smoked tyres and ending the team’s hopes of progressing to the A-Final.

The setback dropped Lamattina into the B-Final, where challenging track conditions again tested both driver and machine. As temperatures continued to fall, grip proved difficult to find and the team encountered mechanical issues during the pass. Despite the challenges, Lamattina expertly pedalled the FUCHS LTFR Top Fuel Dragster down the strip to secure the B-Final victory and finish the weekend on a winning note.

While the campaign was far from straightforward, the team leaves the Winternationals with plenty of positives. A personal best elapsed time, a victory over the event’s top qualifier, a B-Final win and, most importantly, an extension of Phil Lamattina’s championship lead underline the progress being made throughout the season.

Phil said the result reflected the determination of the entire team to maximise every opportunity, regardless of the circumstances.

“Obviously we came here wanting to win the event, but sometimes championship campaigns are about digging deep and getting the best result possible when things aren’t going your way,” Lamattina said.

“To run a personal best, beat the top qualifier and come away with valuable points is a credit to the crew. They never stopped working all weekend.”

The performance reinforces the strength of the Lamattina Top Fuel Racing operation and its ability to deliver under pressure. While not a perfect weekend, it was another important step in the team’s championship campaign.

Lamattina Top Fuel Racing extends its thanks to its crew, partners, supporters and fans for their continued support throughout the Winternationals.

With momentum continuing to build and the championship lead intact, LTFR now turns its attention to the next round with confidence.
