Staging lanes. Marker in hand. The sun’s dropped, the air’s changed since your last pass, and you’ve got one shot at the number. Too quick, you break out. Too slow, you’re chasing it down the track. Either way, you’re loading up early and replaying it the whole drive home.

Brisbane racer Stephan Gouws knows that feeling better than most. He’s also spent years working with technology, both on the tools and behind a screen, so instead of guessing the dial-in, he spent 18 months building The Bracket Racer, a dial-in app made for Australian tracks and Australian racers.
“A weather station tells you the air. It doesn’t know the track, and it doesn’t know your car,” Stephan said. “I wanted something that knew all three.”
That’s exactly what it does. The app covers every track in Australia and pulls live weather using geo-locating for the track you’re at ensuring you have precise weather every pass. It learns from every time slip you enter, and an expected 60-foot lets you factor in how the track is holding. Before you stage, it hands you a number.
The more you race, the sharper it gets. It even learns your car at each track separately, because anyone who’s raced more than one strip knows no two are the same.

The real test came when the app made its race-day debut at Willowbank, and it didn’t take long to prove itself. One racer said the predictions were so accurate that they helped him win his category for the meeting. Another put it head-to-head with the weather station in his trailer. The app came out well ahead, and he now relies on The Bracket Racer instead.
Junior Dragster families haven’t been forgotten either. A dedicated setup locks to ANDRA/IHRA junior spec (methanol, carby, naturally aspirated), so the predictions match how the cars really run. Stephan spent years in the junior pits with his family, and he knows how much guesswork goes on there with these cars.
There’s no big company behind any of this. It’s one racer, testing every update at the track himself and building in what other racers ask for. Next on the list is time slip scanning, so you can log a run just by snapping a photo, multi-car usage so you can store data and receive predictions and ET predictions for Bike racers.
The Bracket Racer is free on the iPhone App Store until the end of 2026, with Android coming to Google Play soon. Search “The Bracket Racer” or follow it on Facebook for updates. So next time you’re in the lanes with the marker in your hand, you might not have to guess.
