Greg and Kim Clayton completed a fairy tale ending to the 2013 Aero Flow Drag racing season by claiming the Australian Championship in Competition Eliminator with a runner-up spot at the Australian Nationals on Sunday.
“It’s been a golden year for QLD tyre and Retreading. The Bridgestone tyre stores that QTR own have received gold awards including Bridgestone store of the year in Toowoomba, QLD. So it’s fitting that we could end the year with the Championship Gold” commented Greg Clayton.
“We have a host of people to thank for the support this year, including principle sponsor, QTR, all our associated sponsors, RD Williams Excavator parts, Fuchs Lubricants, Sign Hut and Lowe Fuel Systems.”
In addition to the amazing support of his sponsors, Clayton was also quick to acknowledge a number of racing identities for their contribution to the win.
“Camp Stanley has been a mentor to me for the last five years and his advice on my driving has been priceless and local Top Alcohol gun, Steven Ham has transported our car to all major events and for this we are ever grateful.”
“My crew chief , my little brother Johnny has done an outstanding job in servicing and keeping the car on the track for each round, along with all our other crew members , who have given their all this year.”
Clayton enjoyed a year of consistency that he believes was the backbone behind their championship win.
“It’s a testament to Fuchs Lubricants really, which have allowed us to run quick and fast all year without any engine damage. We have not hurt one part in the engine this season and the only breakage we had all year, was our Go Pro camera in the final last weekend, which fell off the car”.
The future holds a well deserved holiday in the coming months for the QTR team, before preparations begin in early 2014 to conquer some unfinished business of breaking in to the fives.
“We had 3 goals for the season. Win a Christmas tree gold trophy, make the top 5 in the Australian Aero flow championship and running a 5 second pass in BB/A. For the future we plan to finish off that third goal” Claimed Clayton.
