An auction of unique motorsport items is taking place to help out a young Darwin boy who is hoping to be able to move to Perth to be closer to where he has his medical treatment.
Jayden Hall is a keen motorsport fan and he particularly loves drag racing where he can get closer to the cars and the stars than anywhere else.
Jayden has several medical conditions which can cause him confusion, pain, epileptic attacks, blood noses, heart palpitations, eye sensitivity, coordination problems and difficult with speech, just to name a few of the symptoms.
Currently Jayden has to fly between Darwin and Perth in order to get treatment but with the help of the drag racing community a push is on to help relocated his family to Perth.
Super Sedan racer Andy Kahle said she originally met the family a few years back through Girls Torque Motorsport, with Jayden’s grandmother asking if there were any ladies who would be able to show Jayden their race cars while he was in Perth for treatment.
“It happened to be the Westernationals that weekend and I happened to have a broken car,” Kahle explained. “So I put my hand up and took them both to the Westerns and I took them around to meet all the girl racers.”
Kahle said she got to know the family a bit better and caught up with them every time they were in Perth.
“Each time I heard stories of her (Jayden’s grandmother) arguing with the ‘system’ about how often they’re allowed to come to Perth versus how often their doctor wants to see Jayden,” she said. “The doctor (said Jayden was) not getting enough therapy (speech, behaviour, coordination), but they just don’t have the resources in Darwin.
“So I asked why they didn’t just move to Perth?”
The answer was purely financial. The family spends everything they have on making sure Jayden has a life full of learning and experiences and they just didn’t have the funds to move.
Then came the idea of an auction.
“He loves his motorsport and has met many of our drag racers. He collects all the Raceface cards and scans the magazines for people he knows,” Kahle said. “His teacher even uses motorsport as a teaching aid in order to keep him focused.”
It is hoped through the auction that $15,000 can be raised in total to pay for flights, moving and setup in a new house.
“The auction is just one of the options we’ve setup,” Kahle said. “We’ve tried the crowd funding, been on TV, in the newspaper, had raffles, sausage sizzles et cetera, but in the end the motorsport community has been extremely generous with donations of stuff for the auction.”
It is hoped that enough money can be raised to move Jayden before the start of the new school year.
