Extreme in name, extreme in nature, the 2014 X Champs delivered plenty of white knuckle rides.
Richard Caval’s violent Pro Stock flip in qualifying was frightening to watch, Caval was helped from the Dodge after being knocked out in the incident. Good news is following a day in hopsital for observation Caval has been released and returned home in Victoria.
Daniel Gregorini came out for a exhibition pass, rattled the tyres causing the track locator to break sending the Camaro into the mother of all tank slappers. Gregorini and Simon Travaglini in the other lane did well to avoid each other on several occasions as the Camaro criss-crossed in front of the Falcon. The Camaro has already been fixed following a thrash from the crew and is heading to Queensland for the Winternationals.
No one likes to see a crash, but even more so when it involves such a iconic car like Ben Gatt’s EA Falcon, once the quickest Ford in the world. Gatt had the Falcon all crossed up and it looked like he saved it and Gatt thought he saved it before the Falcon made another dash at the wall.
Pat Carbone also rode out a wild ride during a exhibition run.
Scariest moment of the event came when Top Fuel Bike rider Rob Cassar fell off just past the finish line, the bike was close to the wall and became unsettled in a rough part of the track bouncing Cassar off at top speed. While there were a number of reports about injuries sustained, good news is Cassar was released from hospital the next day, tough buggar!
One of Syndey’s toughest Super Sedan racers, Marco Tolomeo had a hard end to his semi final race. The XY left out of the groove turned right into the wall before careering into the left wall, Marco was unhurt.
Save of the event was Super Stock racer Garry Watterson who managed to the keep the ex Mike Tinney Pro Stocker off the concrete walls while sliding left and right.
Top Fuel carnage.
The startline traction was killer as “Pistol” Pete Pisalidis found out in the final of Competition Eliminator.
A few others found that start line grip to their liking as well.
Cant forget the two wheeled warriors…using just one.
A couple too close for comfort calls.
